Shenandoah Valley Genealogical Society is a nonprofit organization for people interested in researching family history records anywhere in the world. We just happen to be located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
Our monthly programs promote the use of sound genealogical practices. Meetings are held at the Handley Regional Library Auditorium in Winchester, Virginia on the first Wednesday evening during the months of October through May (except January). Membership is available to anyone interested in genealogical research. Contributions are tax deductible under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Program: “Ten Shortcuts Used by Professional Genealogists”

Professional genealogists are trained in many skills they use when they do research for their clients. Often they may appear to be using shortcuts, but are they? This program will encourage the use of good genealogical research techniques and tools that good researchers and professionals use in their work.
Charles S. "Chuck" Mason, Jr., is a Certified Genealogist, who has worked for years as a professional genealogist. He specializes in Southern New Jersey and 19th and 20th Century Death Records. In 1994 he completed the NGS home study course and was an instructor for the course for ten years. He is a member of both the Fairfax and the Mt. Vernon Genealogical Societies and served in various positions on the board of both societies and was the first person to serve three terms as President of MVGS. Chuck is a 1996 and 2001 graduate of the NIGR and is the Past President of the NIGR Alumni Association. He is a former VP of the National Capital Area Chapter of APG and a former director of the Northern Virginia Association for History.
